Kebbi Considers Death Penalty for Bandit Informants After Deadly Attacks

Kebbi State may introduce death penalty or life jail for bandit informants after deadly attacks claim 30 lives. Governor Idris moves to tighten security fast.

Kebbi State Governor Nasiru Idris says the government is reviewing its laws to allow for the death penalty or life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of helping armed bandits. He made this known during a condolence visit to Tadurga village in Zuru and Kyebu in Danko/Wasagu, where recent attacks left 30 people dead.

Describing informants as a major threat, the governor stressed that security remains a top priority. He announced that an army base will soon be established in Zuru Emirate to improve the presence of security forces in the area. Armoured Personnel Carriers and other equipment are also being sent from Abuja to help curb further violence.

Governor Idris expressed deep sorrow over the killings and prayed for the victims and their families. He said his administration has invested heavily in security, purchasing 80 Hilux vehicles, supplying 1,500 motorcycles to vigilantes, and increasing allowances for personnel in high-risk zones.

He warned the public against politicising security matters or spreading misinformation online.

Traditional rulers in the region—the Chief of Danko Chiefdom, Alhaji Ibrahim Al’aji; the Chief of Dabai Chiefdom, Alhaji Suleiman Sami; and the Emir of Zuru, retired Major General Sani Sami—thanked the governor for his visit and efforts. They called for tighter border control, saying most attackers enter the state through neighbouring regions.
