Kevin Durant has officially become a member of the Houston Rockets following the completion of the NBA’s first-ever seven-team trade. This move marks the fifth team of his career and comes after a reflective weekend post where he thanked Arizona fans and expressed excitement about playing in Houston, writing, “Much love to Arizona. Houston, Can’t Wait!”
Durant also spoke candidly on the Mind the Game podcast hosted by LeBron James and former coach Steve Nash. He recalled the turbulence of his Brooklyn Nets era, saying things began to unravel even after he and Nash had just committed to new deals. Durant mentioned key staff and players leaving, including management switching teams and teammates forcing trades. “It was just so much stuff going on,” he said. “A lot of bull around us.”
He added that while he and Nash shared the same vision, the environment made success nearly impossible. “Your hands were tied a lot,” Durant told Nash, who agreed, admitting he didn’t get to coach the way he had hoped. Durant followed up by saying he never got to experience the full potential of Nash’s coaching due to constant off-court distractions.
Despite calling his time with the Nets “weird,” Durant said he truly enjoyed his first season in Brooklyn. “Some of the most fun ball I had playing my whole life,” he shared. But he also pointed out that while he and some others were committed, many around them didn’t match the same energy, which ultimately created instability.
Durant joined the Nets in 2019 after winning two championships with the Golden State Warriors. His time in Brooklyn was affected by injuries and organizational changes, and he played in just 129 games over three years.
Now, as he prepares for a fresh chapter in Houston, Durant seems ready to leave the chaos behind and focus on the game ahead.
