Labour Party chairmanship candidate for Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Engineer Seyi Ipinlaye, has alleged that some individuals are planning to disrupt the Lagos State local government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025. In a statement issued to the press, Ipinlaye warned that these elements aim to repeat the violence witnessed during the 2023 general elections, which he described as marked by voter intimidation, ballot box theft, and threats.
He claimed that Labour Party campaign materials in the area were already being destroyed or defaced, which he said could trigger voter suppression and possible unrest. Ipinlaye urged the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission to ensure the poll is free, fair, and credible. He also appealed to security agencies to act swiftly to prevent any outbreak of violence and to guarantee the safety of voters.
Referencing the Labour Party’s previous electoral wins in both state and federal constituencies in Amuwo-Odofin, Ipinlaye expressed strong confidence in the party’s support and warned against attempts to rig the process. He called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state government to allow the democratic process to run its course without interference, citing Abia State’s recent peaceful and transparent council elections as a model worth emulating.
Ipinlaye concluded by urging law enforcement agencies to maintain neutrality and professionalism throughout the electoral process to protect lives and property.
