Lagos APC Members Ask Tinubu to Intervene in Disputed Council Primaries

APC stakeholders in Eti-Osa East call on President Tinubu to investigate alleged rigging in Lagos council primaries, citing injustice and internal division.

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members from Eti-Osa East LCDA in Lagos have written to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to set up a panel to review what they described as unfair treatment during the party’s recent chairmanship and councillorship primaries. According to them, the selection process, held at the APC state secretariat on Acme Road, lacked transparency and was manipulated to favour certain candidates.

The concerned members, under the name Concerned APC Stakeholders in Eti-Osa East, claimed that several aspirants across Lagos were unfairly excluded due to interference by party leaders and the electoral committee. They said the process contradicted the APC’s democratic values and created deep divisions, especially in Eti-Osa East.

In their open letter to the President, the group highlighted the case of the current chairman, Hon. John Campos Ogundare. They argued that despite his strong track record, such as improving local security, introducing youth empowerment programs, and building a solid partnership between the party and residents, he was denied a fair chance at re-election.

They noted that within six months of taking office, Ogundare restored peace to an area once affected by insecurity. His efforts in infrastructure, community development, and public engagement reportedly earned him wide support among residents. The stakeholders described his exclusion from the primaries as not only undemocratic but also harmful to the party’s image and unity.

The letter also pointed out that APC had already lost the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency to the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, suggesting that continued internal strife could worsen the party’s standing in future polls. They warned that the growing discontent among party members and residents might affect public trust in the ruling party.

In conclusion, the group urged President Tinubu to act swiftly to restore justice and address what they called “electoral fraud” that undermines the very principles he stands for.
