In the last six years, Lagos State has delivered nearly 10,000 affordable housing units to residents as part of a strategic effort to bridge the housing gap.
Lagos State has made significant progress in addressing its housing deficit, delivering 9,970 affordable homes over the past six years. This initiative is part of the state government’s ongoing commitment to improving housing conditions for low-income residents. The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, shared this achievement during a Ministerial Press Briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja.
Mr. Akinderu-Fatai emphasized that the Sanwo-Olu administration’s comprehensive approach included budgetary allocations for constructing new homes, a move aimed at addressing the accommodation needs of lower-income groups across Lagos. This initiative has increased the stock of quality housing and improved living standards, created jobs, and stimulated the local economy.
In June 2024, the government unveiled the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate, Cluster 1, which consists of 270 two-bedroom apartments. This project is part of a broader effort that has seen 21 housing estates completed across Lagos’s five administrative divisions since 2019.
The state combines direct government funding with public-private partnerships (PPP). Through these collaborations, 5,976 homes were built, complementing the 3,994 government-funded units. As a result, Lagos has successfully increased its housing stock, addressing a critical issue for thousands of residents.
In total, the state has delivered nearly 10,000 homes in just six years, significantly impacting Lagos’s housing deficit.
