Real Madrid’s iconic midfielder, Luka Modric, has confirmed that he will leave the club after this summer’s Club World Cup. The Croatian star, aged 39, shared the news on Instagram, stating that Saturday would mark his final appearance at the Santiago Bernabeu. Reflecting on his time at the club, Modric expressed immense pride and gratitude for the unforgettable memories he has built over the years. Though he will no longer wear the Real Madrid shirt on the pitch after the tournament, Modric vowed to remain a lifelong supporter of the club.
Since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012 for approximately 35 million euros, Modric has played nearly 600 matches and helped secure numerous titles, including six Champions League and four La Liga trophies. Despite a challenging start to his career at the club, Modric quickly established himself as one of the world’s finest midfielders, culminating in a Ballon d’Or win in 2018. That same year, he played a pivotal role in leading Croatia to the World Cup final in Russia.
Reflecting on his journey, Modric shared his memories of unforgettable comebacks, finals, and celebrations at the Bernabeu, all of which contributed to his immense happiness during his successful tenure at Madrid.
