AC Milan have officially confirmed the signing of Croatian football star Luka Modric on a one-year contract. The 39-year-old midfielder, who spent the last 12 years at Real Madrid, joins the Italian giants ahead of the new season. Milan stated that the agreement runs until June 30, 2026, with an option to extend for another year.
Modric, who turns 40 in September, arrived in Milan on Monday for medical checks. He will start training with the squad in August, according to local media. Speaking through the club’s social media channels, he said he was excited to begin this new phase of his career, expressing gratitude to fans with a warm message: “I’m very happy to be here to start a new chapter in my career. A big hug to everyone.”
This move comes after Milan’s coach, Massimiliano Allegri, hinted last week that the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner would be joining from Real Madrid following the Club World Cup. Modric had been linked with a switch to Serie A since early June, after announcing he would not renew his contract with the Spanish club.
Allegri, who led Milan to a Serie A title in 2011 during his earlier tenure, has returned to guide the team this season. Milan’s first competitive match of the campaign is set for August 17 in the Italian Cup.
