A 25-year-old man, Raji Ridwan, has been sentenced to three years in prison with hard labor by an Osun State Chief Magistrate Court in Ila-Orangun for attempting to rape a female student. The ruling was made on June 20, 2025, after the Osun Amotekun Corps arrested Ridwan for illegally entering a female hostel at the Federal University of Science in Ila-Orangun. Court records show that Ridwan entered the hostel at night and attempted to assault a resident. The victim resisted and alerted others, prompting neighbors and students to intervene. Ridwan fled but was quickly caught during a search led by the Osun Amotekun Corps. He confessed to the crime and pleaded guilty to a single charge of attempted rape before Magistrate Ibukun Adeniran. The prosecution presented Ridwan’s confession and a witness statement, leading to his conviction under Section 359 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002. No fine was offered as an alternative to the prison term. The Osun Amotekun Corps commended the victim’s courage and the community’s quick response, emphasizing their commitment to combating sexual violence and ensuring safety across the state.
