The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receiving applications from five additional political groups seeking official registration as parties, bringing the total number of applicants to 134. This was announced by Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, following a meeting held in Abuja.
Mr. Olumekun also reported that 96,085 new voters were registered during the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State. According to him, the exercise, which ran for nine days across 326 registration centres, averaged over 10,600 registrations per day.
In response to appeals from residents and stakeholders, INEC has extended the registration period by three days. The new deadline is Sunday, July 20, 2025. In addition to the new registrations, 12,595 voters requested transfers of their voting locations, and 7,061 applied for updates to their records or replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Preliminary data reveals that 58% of the newly registered voters are women, while over half (52.48%) are young people between the ages of 18 and 34.
Details of the latest political associations, including their names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leadership, have been published on INEC’s official platforms for public awareness.
