MOSOP Warns Against Forcing Oil Resumption in Ogoni, Urges President Tinubu to Avoid Crisis

MOSOP cautions President Tinubu on resuming oil production in Ogoni, warning of potential crisis and reputation damage, urging dialogue for lasting peace.

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has warned that President Bola Tinubu cannot afford to force the resumption of oil production in Ogoni. MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke expressed concerns that such a move would lead to severe consequences for the people of Ogoni and the country. Despite efforts by some private interests to push for oil production in the region, Nsuke is confident that President Tinubu will avoid igniting an oil-related crisis in Ogoni.

Speaking at the MOSOP secretariat in Bori, Rivers State, Nsuke emphasized that the recent push for oil production in Ogoni is part of a deceptive and fraudulent attempt by the oil industry, in collaboration with private stakeholders, to disregard the legitimate concerns and rights of the Ogoni people. He assured the public that MOSOP would strongly resist this action.

Nsuke stressed that the government would not risk damaging its reputation, as a forceful resumption would tarnish the government’s image. He urged the Ogoni people to remain calm and ignore provocations related to the issue, especially with the 2027 elections approaching. He reiterated the need for peaceful dialogue to resolve the crisis and for the government to recognize MOSOP’s position.

According to Nsuke, any attempt to ignore MOSOP’s stance and push forward with oil production without consultation would be an ambush on President Tinubu. He suggested that if the President adheres to MOSOP’s advice, it would not only resolve the Ogoni issue permanently but also strengthen the government’s reputation and foster goodwill domestically and internationally.
