A native doctor known by several names, including Obi Obieze, Obu Onyeka, “Ezeani,” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” was caught while attempting to escape Lagos on a motorcycle. Authorities say Obieze, originally from Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu, is linked to the abduction of a 13-year-old girl.
The girl was taken by three men on May 27 while walking to the farm with her father. She was later rescued from a shrine connected to Obieze by Nigerian Police officers. After the rescue, the suspect fled, and local youths burned down his property. Police declared him wanted.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) confirmed his arrest at the Gbaji checkpoint on Badagry-Seme Road as he tried to cross the land border out of the country. Officers acted on reliable intelligence to intercept him. Obieze carried a National Identity Management Commission enrollment slip, which helped confirm his identity. He reportedly admitted to the crimes during questioning.
NIS said it works closely with the police to ensure the suspect is handed over for further investigation and prosecution. The agency emphasized its ongoing commitment to national security and its support of law enforcement in stopping cross-border crimes.
