NDLEA Strikes Major Blow Against Bandits’ Drug Networks, Arrests Two Infamous Kingpins

NDLEA arrests top drug kingpins and intercepts massive consignments across Nigeria, disrupting bandits’ supply chains.

In a sweeping operation across multiple states, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted significant drug consignments intended for terrorists and bandits, securing arrests of suppliers and two high-profile drug kingpins in Lagos. The agency confirmed that these coordinated efforts mark a critical step in dismantling criminal drug networks threatening public safety.

The crackdown began in Borno State on September 27, when NDLEA operatives apprehended 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim at Njimtilo village. Ibrahim was caught driving a Mercedes-Benz GLK loaded with 39,380 pills of tramadol and exol-5, cleverly hidden in the vehicle’s engine compartment. The same day in Yobe State, Halima Adamu was detained with 39 parcels of Colorado cannabis weighing 1.4 kilograms concealed in her bag. Her accomplice, Habiba Muhammad, was later arrested in Maiduguri.

Further north in Kano, authorities arrested Aliyu Sani, 27, and Yahaya Tata, 26, in possession of 30,030 tramadol pills, adding to the growing list of significant drug seizures across the region. Lagos witnessed one of the operation’s most notable successes, as the NDLEA Special Operations Unit, following weeks of surveillance, apprehended two notorious drug kingpins, 64-year-old Victor Nwosa and 49-year-old Felix Chika Obiegbu. During the arrests, authorities confiscated large quantities of heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine from their residences.

Other arrests across the nation highlight the breadth of the NDLEA’s ongoing campaign. In Bayelsa, three suspects were found with 12 kilograms of skunk cannabis and 50 cartridges. Ekiti authorities detained ex-convict Femi Owoeye with 32 kilograms of skunk, while Kaduna operatives seized 262.6 kilograms of skunk hidden in a Honda Pilot jeep. Gombe State saw Babangida Mohammed, 25, arrested with a methamphetamine consignment, and Abuja authorities intercepted 2.1 kilograms of Colorado cannabis from a 40-year-old suspect. Edo State witnessed the destruction of 24,146 kilograms of cannabis on farmlands in Esan West and Igueben Local Government Areas, alongside the interception of 1,025 kilograms of cannabis from a truck along Wareke-Auchi road.

Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman of the NDLEA, praised the dedication and vigilance of officers across the states. “Every gram of these dangerous drugs seized reinforces our determination to protect youths, disrupt criminal networks, and safeguard national security,” he stated, underscoring the agency’s commitment to curbing the spread of illicit substances nationwide.

The NDLEA’s relentless campaign demonstrates a growing resolve to combat drug trafficking and its associated threats, sending a strong message to criminal networks that their operations will face continuous disruption and accountability.
