NGO Empowers 250 Lagos Counsellors to Combat School Bullying

Over 250 school counsellors from Lagos undergo anti-bullying training to create safer learning environments for students, led by the School Anti-Bullying Force.

A non-governmental organization, the School Anti-Bullying Force, recently trained over 250 school counsellors from across Lagos State. The training took place at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and was aimed at addressing the growing concern of bullying in schools. Mrs. Mariecollete Kekong, the founder of the NGO and a certified child counsellor, explained that the initiative was designed not only to tackle bullying but to foster a secure environment where children can excel academically and emotionally.

The training provided counsellors with the tools to help children recognize, prevent, and stand up against bullying. According to Kekong, the program was a valuable opportunity for the counsellors to expand their knowledge on how to effectively combat this issue. The NGO also plans to establish Anti-Bullying Centres and Clubs in schools across the state, where counsellors will receive additional support and training, including better ways to listen to and assist students.

Dr. Rita Kienka, representing Lagos State Education District 3, highlighted the state government’s strict stance on bullying, emphasizing that the training was part of the effort to reduce and eliminate such behavior in schools.
