Nigeria at 65: Gov Uba Sani Says Nation is Rising Stronger

Governor Uba Sani, in his Independence message, assures Nigerians that the country is overcoming challenges and moving toward unity, growth, and prosperity.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reaffirmed his conviction that Nigeria is moving steadily on the road to recovery and growth, despite the daunting challenges confronting the nation. Delivering his 65th Independence Anniversary message on Wednesday, the governor emphasized that the country has weathered multiple storms yet continues to stand resilient, united, and unbroken. He urged citizens to translate independence into meaningful progress by embracing peace, justice, and shared responsibility.

Governor Sani highlighted that his administration is working to convert vision into tangible realities through targeted investments in infrastructure, agriculture, education, human capital, and peacebuilding. He disclosed that a total of 85 road projects spanning 785 kilometres have been flagged off across Kaduna State, with nearly half completed, aimed at opening up trade routes and enhancing market access. Under the Rural Revitalisation Agenda, more than 500,000 hectares of abandoned farmland have been brought back into productive use, while significant commercial hubs such as the Birnin Gwari Livestock Market and Kidandan Market in Giwa have been reopened to stimulate economic activity.

On the educational front, Sani reported impressive gains, including the reintegration of 10,728 out-of-school children into the classroom system, alongside the reopening of 535 schools that were previously closed due to security concerns. To further strengthen rural health care, 255 Primary Health Centres have been upgraded, while three vocational institutes have been established to provide women and youths with skills needed to thrive in competitive markets.

Agriculture, according to the governor, remains a cornerstone of Kaduna’s development strategy. He revealed that more than 10 percent of the 2025 budget has been dedicated to the sector — the largest share in recent years — with a strong focus on empowering smallholder farmers and boosting food security. In the same breath, he underscored the indispensable role of peace in sustainable development, noting his administration’s investment in community policing, reconciliation projects, and initiatives designed to support victims of conflict in rebuilding their lives and restoring trust.

Reiterating his philosophy of leadership anchored on fairness, empathy, and inclusivity, Sani assured that policies in Kaduna State are being shaped by justice and equity, with deliberate efforts made to ensure no group feels marginalized. He also pledged unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, commending its bold reforms targeted at securing peace, revitalizing prosperity, and strengthening democratic governance.

“As we celebrate today, let us renew our commitment to building a nation where hope thrives and unity endures. With God’s guidance and our collective resolve, we will overcome our challenges and realize the full potential of our state and country,” Governor Sani declared, before closing his address with a prayer for Kaduna State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
