Nine-Year-Old Relative of Chiefs Owner Among Victims in Texas Flood Tragedy

Tavia Hunt confirms a young family member was among those killed in Texas floods as NFL teams and leaders respond to the disaster.

Tavia Hunt, wife of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, has confirmed that one of the victims of the recent Texas floods was a member of their family. Nine-year-old Janie Hunt, a camper at Camp Mystic, was among the children who lost their lives during the floods that swept through Wimberley over the weekend.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Tavia Hunt expressed her grief, revealing that Janie was a beloved cousin in the Hunt family. She also mentioned other children of close friends who were lost in the same incident. Her message reflected both sorrow and faith, posing questions about how to trust God during such painful moments. She referred to scriptures that acknowledge human suffering and the struggles of faith during tragedy.

Janie was the great-granddaughter of the late billionaire William Herbert Hunt and a relative of Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt. Her death has added a personal layer of loss to a disaster that has already claimed dozens of lives across Texas.

At least 79 people have been confirmed dead, and 41 others are still missing following the powerful storm that triggered deadly flooding across the region. The damage has been so severe that Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared a statewide day of prayer on Sunday to honor victims and support families affected.

Former President Donald Trump, speaking from Morristown, New Jersey, also addressed the tragedy, offering prayers and confirming plans to visit Texas soon. He described the floods as a “100-year catastrophe” and stressed the speed and scale of the disaster, saying it happened within seconds and caught many off guard.

The NFL, including Texas-based teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, has responded swiftly by pledging $1.5 million in relief funds. A joint statement from the league confirmed the funds will go toward both immediate aid and long-term support for flood survivors and the families of victims.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security defended the response of the National Weather Service, noting that accurate warnings were issued ahead of the storm despite the unusually intense rainfall. Officials criticized misleading narratives in the media and stressed that the scale of rainfall was far beyond normal levels.

Across the state, rescue efforts are ongoing, and support continues to pour in from different quarters, with community groups, faith leaders, and sports organizations standing together to provide comfort and relief to those most affected.
