NNPP Accuses Kwankwaso of Betrayal Over Party Defections

The NNPP slams Rabiu Kwankwaso for calling defectors traitors, insisting that he is the true betrayer and has lost control of the Kwankwassiya Movement.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has responded sharply to Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso’s criticism of members of the Kwankwassiya Movement who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The NNPP claims that Kwankwaso, not the defectors, is the true betrayer. The former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwassiya Movement had accused the defectors of betraying the trust of the movement when they joined the APC. He made these remarks during a meeting with members of the Kwankwassiya group in Kano.

In a statement issued from Lagos, NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, expressed that Kwankwaso no longer speaks for the party, noting that he had been expelled after attempting to take control of the NNPP. Major emphasized that the Kwankwassiya Movement was never a political party but a group that joined the NNPP after Kwankwaso became the presidential candidate in 2023. The NNPP official argued that, since Kwankwaso had already been expelled from the party, members of the Kwankwassiya group were free to join any political party, including the APC.

Major further criticized Kwankwaso for attempting to seize control of the NNPP, an action he claims led to his eventual expulsion. He stated that Kwankwaso had lost the trust of both the party and his followers. The NNPP’s message highlighted the movement’s loss of cohesion, suggesting that Kwankwaso no longer had the support or influence over his group.

In another development, an Abuja Federal High Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by Kwankwaso’s loyalists, challenging the legitimacy of the current NNPP leadership. The court ruled that internal party disputes, including issues of leadership, were beyond its jurisdiction.

Dr. Major advised Kwankwaso to accept the reality of his political situation, suggesting he could return to the APC as a regular member, rather than continue criticizing those who had defected.
