Northern Elders Demand Swift Justice Over Plateau Killings

The Northern Elders Forum strongly condemns the deadly attacks in Plateau State, calling for justice, swift security action, and an independent probe.

The Northern Elders Forum has condemned the latest wave of killings in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the violence as deeply troubling and completely unacceptable. In a statement released on Wednesday, April 16, the forum’s spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, expressed strong disapproval over the brutal attacks and the slow response from security agencies.

Professor Jiddere called on authorities to arrest and prosecute those behind the attacks quickly. He expressed frustration that the killings and destruction of property continue without serious consequences, blaming what he described as a lack of meaningful action by those responsible for the nation’s safety. The forum criticized the silence of the Federal Government, stressing that immediate deployment of well-equipped and motivated security forces is essential to restore calm in the troubled region.

The Northern Elders Forum is also calling for more than just a military presence. They want clear accountability. To that end, they are demanding compensation for affected families and the creation of an independent investigative panel. According to the group, the panel’s findings should be made public to ensure that justice is not only done but clearly seen to be done.

Professor Jiddere did not mince words when he declared that the blood of innocent Nigerians demands justice. He said those who plan, support, or allow these crimes to happen must not be shielded from justice under any circumstances. The group extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Plateau State, showing solidarity with the victims and their families.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, the forum insisted that the time for empty promises and statements has passed. What is needed now, they said, is strong, clear, and just action that can bring lasting peace and accountability.
