The Obidient Movement has accused former Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure of sending thugs to attack social media activist Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, a supporter of Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election. In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, the group urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to order a full investigation into the incident and ensure that all those involved face justice. Reports indicate that Mama P was later taken into custody by the Edo State Police Command, though the reason for her arrest remains unclear.
The group condemned the attack, describing it as an insult to womanhood and a violation of democratic values. They alleged that Abure had resorted to violence and intimidation, insisting that such actions would not silence the movement or its supporters. The statement stressed that Nigerians remain determined to resist what they called tyranny, adding that Abure’s conduct shows a lack of integrity and leadership.
In response, the Abure-led faction of the Labour Party issued its own statement through spokesperson Obiora Ifoh. The faction accused Mama P of being the aggressor, claiming she had engaged in verbal and physical confrontations with Abure both before and after a flight from Abuja to Benin.
The Obidient Movement reaffirmed its support for Mama P and vowed to continue its push for a new Nigeria built on justice, fairness, and peace.
