Operatives from the Ogun State Security Network, commonly known as the Amotekun Corps, have apprehended a key suspect believed to be deeply involved in the illegal drug trade. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Obi Emmanuel, was arrested in the bustling market area of Ayetoro, located within the Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
This arrest follows valuable intelligence provided by the Ogun State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which had uncovered Emmanuel’s involvement in organizing drug deals in the region. It was revealed that Emmanuel had coordinated with a commercial driver, referred to as Alausa, who was arrested by the NDLEA the previous day.
According to a statement by the Director of Intelligence and Investigation for Amotekun, CSP Shodeke Sholanke (rtd), the operation resulted in the discovery that the driver, tasked with transporting a large quantity of illicit drugs from Abeokuta to Ayetoro, had been carrying an estimated million-Naira worth of substances when the NDLEA intercepted him. The driver’s confession led directly to Emmanuel’s arrest by Amotekun officers.
The Ogun Amotekun corps has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the NDLEA to tackle drug abuse and trafficking within the state. The authorities have also emphasized the crucial role of community participation in reporting suspicious activities that contribute to such criminal undertakings. Emmanuel has been transferred to the NDLEA’s Ogun State Command for further investigation and prosecution.
This development highlights ongoing efforts by the Ogun State Security Network to curb the widespread problem of drug trafficking in the area.
