The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed claims that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) were directed to pay N39,000 each for deployment to the upcoming local government elections in Lagos. This clarification was made by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, through an official statement released on Friday in Akure.
According to Ayanlade, the viral report suggesting such a payment requirement is completely false and misleading. He stated that no directive was issued by the Command demanding any financial contribution from its officers. He described the allegation as baseless and an intentional distortion of facts.
Ayanlade explained that the deployment of officers from nearby commands followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police to maintain security during the elections. He emphasized that cooperation between commands is a normal procedure within the Nigeria Police Force and reflects the commitment to a professional and law-abiding service.
He confirmed that all logistical and welfare arrangements for the deployment were handled by the Command itself, ensuring officers were not burdened with personal expenses. He added that many officers had already reported to their duty posts without being asked to pay any money.
The spokesperson condemned the media report as ignorant and misleading, accusing the author of prioritizing misinformation over truth. He called on the public to ignore the publication, assuring that the Command is fully dedicated to maintaining professionalism, public trust, and transparency in all operations.
