Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed that Oyo State will honor the late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo with a full state burial following his passing on April 6. During a condolence visit to the family at their residence in the Molete area of Ibadan, the governor announced that preparations for the funeral are already in progress. He assured the bereaved family that the burial will reflect the legacy and prominence of the former governor, who remains a significant figure in the state’s political and academic landscape.
Dr. Olunloyo, who passed away at the age of 89, was described by Governor Makinde as more than a political leader. He called him a brilliant scholar, a man of high intellect, and a person of unshakable integrity. According to the governor, Olunloyo’s work in governance, Mathematics, and public service had a lasting impact that inspired generations across the country. He noted that the late governor’s intellect and leadership continue to be a source of pride for the state.
Born in 1935, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo was one of Nigeria’s earliest PhD holders in Mathematics. He briefly served as governor of the old Oyo State in 1983 under the now defunct National Party of Nigeria. The governor’s visit was received by Mrs. Aderonke Olunloyo, the widow of the late statesman, as the family and the state government work together to finalize details of the upcoming state burial.
