PANDEF Pays Tribute to Late IGP Solomon Arase, Describes Him as a Rare Gem

PANDEF honors late IGP Solomon Arase at his October 3 burial, calling him a rare gem whose humility and service to humanity remain unforgettable.

The Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, describing him as an exceptional figure whose humility, love for humanity, and service to his people left lasting footprints. In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief (Sir) Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, the group noted that Arase’s legacy would remain unforgettable. The leadership of the forum was fully represented at the burial rites held in Benin City, Edo State, which spanned two days. The ceremonies began with a vigil mass on October 2, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church along Airport Road, and continued with a requiem mass at the same venue on October 3, 2025.

Ambassador Godknows Igali, who led the PANDEF delegation, was visibly emotional as he paid tribute to the late police chief. He described Arase as a man of remarkable humility whose generosity touched lives far beyond his official responsibilities. He emphasized that Arase’s annual gestures of support to orphanages, particularly on his birthdays, spoke volumes about his dedication to humanity. According to Igali, Arase stood out as one of the rare few who combined authority with compassion, leaving behind a record of kindness that will not be forgotten.

The late IGP’s role extended beyond his national service as Nigeria’s police chief. Even in retirement, he continued to give back to society through his work as Edo State Chairman of PANDEF and as the founding President of the Benin Consultative Forum. His commitment to his roots and to the people of the Niger Delta was widely recognized, earning him admiration from colleagues, friends, and the wider public.

The funeral attracted a large turnout of PANDEF national executives, state chairmen, and members of the Edo State chapter, underscoring the broad respect Arase commanded across the region. The caliber of dignitaries present, according to PANDEF, demonstrated the depth of his influence and the strong personal and professional connections he built throughout his life.

In its message, the forum stated that the passing of Solomon Arase had created a significant void, noting that he lived a life consistent with the teachings of Christ. The group expressed confidence that his soul would find eternal rest, while extending prayers for comfort to his family and community. PANDEF concluded its tribute with words of admiration, stressing that Arase’s humility, selfless service, and devotion to humanity will continue to inspire many.
