Pilot Suspended After Ignoring Safety Rules at Abuja Airport

NCAA suspends ValueJet pilot and co-pilot after dangerous takeoff without clearance at Abuja airport. Full investigation underway.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has suspended two ValueJet crew members after a serious safety violation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, August 5, involved a pilot and co-pilot who began takeoff procedures without following the required clearance protocols.

According to a statement by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, the crew ignored mandatory pre-departure instructions at the domestic terminal. The pilot’s actions were described as careless and a direct threat to airport staff and passengers.

The Authority identified the pilot as Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and the co-pilot as First Officer Ivan Oloba. Both licences were suspended immediately. The NCAA stated that the suspension will last until a full investigation is completed.

Officials say the crew’s behavior broke several civil aviation rules and went against international safety standards. NCAA emphasized that it will continue to prioritize safety and hold all operators accountable to protect everyone using Nigeria’s airspace.
