Police Await Official Court Order on Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement Suspension

Police say they haven't received court order halting tinted glass permit enforcement following lawyer's social media post.

The Nigeria Police Force has responded to claims regarding a Federal High Court directive concerning the enforcement of tinted glass permits, stating it has not received formal notification of the order.

The response followed a social media post by human rights attorney Inibehe Effiong, who published portions of a court ruling instructing law enforcement to maintain the status quo in an active case about tinted glass permit enforcement.

Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin addressed the matter through his official X account, clarifying that police authorities have not been formally served with the referenced court document. He emphasized the importance of presenting complete information to the public, pointing out that Effiong highlighted only section six of the order while omitting section eight.

The court order in question was issued in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, with John Aikpokpo-Martins as plaintiff against the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force as defendants. The ruling prevents police from continuing enforcement actions related to tinted glass regulations until the case reaches its conclusion.

The Federal High Court in Warri issued the directive requiring authorities to preserve the current situation and honor the judicial process underway.

Kunle Edun, SAN, serving as lead counsel in the case, confirmed the court’s decision. He characterized the ruling as a significant achievement in maintaining legal principles and safeguarding citizen rights during the resolution of the main issues.
