The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed on Friday that three suspected Lakurawa bandits were killed during a joint operation carried out by security operatives and local vigilantes in Gorun Yamma village, located in Dandi Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, who made the disclosure, explained that the operation was the result of actionable intelligence that pointed to the presence of the bandits in the area.
Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer of Kamba, Muhammed Bello, mobilized officers alongside vigilante groups, leading to a prolonged gun battle that stretched for hours. The confrontation ended with three of the armed suspects neutralized, while others managed to escape into the forest with gunshot wounds.
At the scene of the clash, security operatives recovered an unregistered vehicle believed to have been used by the attackers. Some of the fleeing suspects also abandoned weapons in their haste to evade capture.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, hailed the courage displayed by the officers and vigilantes who took part in the operation, urging them to sustain their momentum in tackling criminal groups across the state.
He stressed that continued collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante formations remained critical in suppressing bandit activities.
The Commissioner also praised the decisive action of the Divisional Police Officer in Kamba for his prompt response, assuring residents that the police command remains firmly committed to dismantling criminal networks and making Kebbi State an uncomfortable zone for bandits and other violent groups.
