A tragic discovery was made on the morning of May 6, 2025, when a pregnant woman was found dead, hanging from a cashew tree along Uke-Ideani road in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The cause of death remains uncertain, with authorities suspecting either suicide or foul play.
The body was reported by local residents to the Ogidi Police Division, who arrived at the scene to retrieve it. Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the discovery and stated that the body has been moved to the morgue for further investigation.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed concern over the incident, calling it a tragic example of “man’s inhumanity to man.” He urged local leaders and community members to assist in the investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Police are also asking the public to help identify the deceased as they continue their probe into the suspected murder.
