The Presidency has denied viral claims that Hadiza Bala Usman has been appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), replacing Senator George Akume. According to the report making the rounds online, Akume was allegedly named the new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s supposed resignation.
Reacting to the claim, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the circulating information is entirely false. He advised the public to ignore what he described as fake news.
Despite celebrations by a few women’s groups who believed the appointment was real, the Presidency issued a brief statement to clear the air. It clarified that President Bola Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
The statement reaffirmed that Senator Akume remains the SGF and accused unnamed individuals of spreading misinformation. The Presidency urged Nigerians not to fall for rumours designed to mislead the public.
