President Bola Tinubu has expressed his appreciation to the Nigerian Army for their role in securing the Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Super highway, a crucial infrastructure project. During a visit to troops stationed at the Forward Operations Base Laager in Kebbi, Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru conveyed the president’s commendation. According to a statement released by the minister’s media assistant, Mati Ali, the project is part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at boosting economic activities and improving transportation across the country. The minister highlighted the road’s potential to enhance travel, particularly for commuters between Sokoto and Lagos, while stimulating job creation and economic opportunities.
The president praised the army for safeguarding both personnel and equipment at the construction site. He emphasized the importance of the highway project and its transformative potential for Nigeria’s infrastructure. The project, which was initiated in October 2024, will see the dualization of a 1,068-kilometre road connecting Sokoto to Lagos, passing through seven states. Hitech Construction Company Limited has been awarded the contract for the project, which is set to be completed in phases, with the first phase scheduled for 2027. The government has committed to maintaining high-quality standards throughout the construction process, with an estimated cost of N13 trillion for both the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry projects.
