On May 22, President Bola Tinubu submitted a N1.48 trillion budget proposal for the Rivers State Government to the National Assembly for approval. This move follows the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the state’s 2025 budget and the ongoing state of emergency in the region.
The proposed budget allocates N324 billion for infrastructure, N166 billion for health, N75.6 billion for education, and N31.4 billion for agriculture. The budget also aims to create around 6,000 jobs in agriculture, highlighting its importance for the state’s economic recovery.
President Tinubu urged the National Assembly to pass the budget swiftly, emphasizing its critical role in supporting the people of Rivers State during this challenging period. The state has been under emergency rule since March due to a prolonged political dispute between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
