President Tinubu’s Lavish Rewards for Super Falcons Spark Jubilation Across Nigeria

President Tinubu awards Super Falcons national honours, homes, and cash after WAFCON victory, sparking wide praise and emotional reactions nationwide.

Nigerians have flooded social media with praise for President Bola Tinubu after he announced generous rewards for the Super Falcons following their dramatic win at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The victory marked Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title.

To honour the historic achievement, the President on Monday conferred the national title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and the 11-member technical crew. Each player was also gifted a three-bedroom house and a $100,000 cash prize. Members of the technical team received $50,000 each.

The announcement sparked emotional celebrations at the Presidential Villa, where some players danced in joy, chanting, “Na our papa be this o.”

Social media users across the country responded with excitement and admiration. On X (formerly Twitter), many called the move groundbreaking and timely. @OjubanireKehin2 wrote, “₦150 million for each of the players! I’m happy for the team, especially the home-based players. This is huge! Thank you Mr President!”

@FranklynGaga noted, “Highly commendable. Congratulations to our women. This is massive. Hope he fulfils it.” Another user, @cryptostashed20, commented, “Very good for me because those girls really need that. In advanced countries, systems are in place to support athletes after retirement.”
