Rhode Island Man Charged Over Violent Threats Against Trump and Officials

A Rhode Island man is facing federal charges after allegedly posting violent threats against Donald Trump and key officials on Truth Social.

A 37-year-old man from Rhode Island, Carl D. Montague, is facing serious federal charges after allegedly posting violent threats aimed at former President Donald Trump and members of his administration on Truth Social. The Department of Justice confirmed that Montague has been charged with threatening the president, making interstate threats, and threatening to assault, kidnap, or murder U.S. officials and law enforcement officers.

The threats were posted on June 27, 2025, in a message laced with profanity. According to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI, Montague threatened to shoot Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. The post was flagged by Trump Media and Technology, the parent company of Truth Social, and reported to the FBI the same night.

Agents tracked Montague to his residence in Rhode Island. When questioned, he allegedly admitted to writing the post and said he had been using marijuana heavily at the time. He also told investigators he deleted the account afterward and was venting out of frustration with politics. According to the complaint, Montague expressed regret and said he did not have a clear reason for targeting Bondi or Miller, even admitting he could not identify Bondi.

The FBI confirmed Montague does not own weapons, nor did he have plans or means to carry out any attack. However, based on the content of the message, authorities found enough evidence to move forward with charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
