The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, the Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, was attacked and tortured by a group of suspected thugs who also forced him to sign a resignation letter. According to the police, more than 30 individuals stormed the council premises on Thursday, June 20, around 1:40 p.m., and held the official hostage inside his office.
Viral videos from the scene showed Iheanachor being physically assaulted and pressured to step down. The footage also captured another victim, Mr. Alabi, Secretary of the Council, being beaten by the group. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the attack was led by the council’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Hector Ekakita, and the Chief of Staff to the administrator.
During the invasion, the attackers reportedly stole the LGA boss’s mobile phones and made away with sensitive documents. Police say Iheanachor was forced to write and sign a resignation letter under intense threat and abuse. He is currently receiving medical treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The police have now invited the CSO, the Chief of Staff, and others involved in the incident for questioning. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, visited the scene and has ordered all named individuals to appear at the State Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
SP Iringe-Koko warned that anyone who ignores the police invitation will face serious consequences. She emphasized that the command condemns the act and is committed to upholding peace and justice in the state. Citizens have been urged to stay calm and cooperate with law enforcement as investigations continue.
