Secretary of State Marco Rubio has rejected growing speculation about a possible run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, expressing instead his full support for Vice President JD Vance. During an interview aired Saturday on Fox News Channel’s My View with Lara Trump, Rubio said, “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that,” calling Vance one of his closest friends in politics.
Rubio praised Vance’s performance as vice president, emphasizing his own satisfaction with his current role in President Donald Trump’s administration. “I want to do this job as long as the president allows me to,” he said. The former Florida senator was appointed Secretary of State after Trump’s 2024 victory over then–Vice President Kamala Harris and was one of the first Cabinet members confirmed.
Reflecting on his journey from Trump critic to key Cabinet member, Rubio said his focus is on achieving results. “If we continue at the pace we’ve set over the last six months, I’ll be able to look back and say I made a difference, had an impact, and served my country in a very positive way,” he said. “And I would be satisfied with that as the apex of my career.”
