Sanusi Cancels Sallah Durbar to Prevent Tension in Kano

Emir Sanusi II calls off Sallah Durbar after security warnings, urging local leaders to remain in place to avoid unrest.

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, has called off the planned Sallah Durbar celebrations. The announcement was made during a press briefing at the Kofar Kudu palace. According to the Emir, the decision came after meetings with the Kano State Government, during which he was shown credible intelligence suggesting attempts to use the event to stir unrest across the state.

Sanusi explained that the evidence presented was too serious to ignore and that the safety of the people must come first. As a result, the emirate council decided to cancel the event and has instructed all district, ward, and village heads to remain at their respective locations. This move aims to prevent any possible crisis and maintain peace during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

This announcement follows a warning from joint security agencies in Kano earlier in the week. Authorities reaffirmed that a ban on all Sallah Durbar activities remains in place across the state.
