The Nigerian Senate has approved the appointment of Thompson Oludare Sunday as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). Kabir Sabo Kataka was also confirmed as the Executive Director of the same agency. Their confirmation came after the Senate reviewed a report submitted by its Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, led by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru of Lagos East. During the session, the committee’s report on the nominees was presented and accepted without objection. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier submitted the nominations in May, seeking legislative approval for both candidates. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read out the president’s request on the Senate floor, where it was assigned to the committee for screening. With the Senate’s approval, Oludare and Kataka are set to take on leadership roles at the NDIC, a critical institution tasked with protecting depositors and promoting trust in Nigeria’s banking system.
