Popular Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale is currently at the center of an international fraud investigation after authorities seized his luxury Lamborghini Urus. The 2019 model was taken from his home in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra, during a joint operation by Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
EOCO’s acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the seizure followed a request from US officials dating back to 2023. The vehicle is linked to proceeds from financial crimes committed by Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is now serving an 86-month sentence in the United States and has been ordered to pay over $4.7 million in restitution.
During the operation, EOCO officers conducted a search at Shatta Wale’s residence. The artist, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., was cooperative and handed over the car himself. He reportedly requested that the process remain low-key, explaining that the car was central to his public image. Officers respected the request, allowing him to surrender the car quietly.
EOCO clarified that armed officers were present during the search as part of standard procedure to ensure their safety. The Lamborghini is expected to be returned to the United States as part of the asset recovery process.
Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau have been identified as persons of interest. They are expected to be invited for questioning in the days ahead.
EOCO also noted that it plans to share its final findings with the FBI and the US Justice Department, reinforcing ongoing cooperation between both countries.
Following the seizure, Shatta Wale expressed anger on Facebook, criticizing EOCO’s decision to bring armed operatives to his home. In one post, he warned the EOCO boss about political consequences, saying, “Raymond Archer, EOCO Boss, Ibe, you go make NDC go out of power next 4 years.” In another, he added, “EOCO boss, the president of Ghana didn’t put you in that office to come and humiliate the citizens of this country. Remember, God no sleep.”
