Shettima Leaves Nigeria for Ethiopia to Strengthen Environmental and Economic Ties

Vice President Shettima travels to Ethiopia for talks on climate action, agriculture, and industrial growth under an official state invitation.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa on an official visit at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Dr Abiy Ahmed. According to a statement from Shettima’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the visit will focus on deepening cooperation between both countries across environmental, agricultural, and industrial sectors.

Shettima is expected to participate in the official launch of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Programme, a national initiative that aims to plant 20 billion tree seedlings over four years. The project is focused on restoring forest cover, boosting biodiversity, and tackling the impact of climate change.

The vice president will also tour key agricultural and industrial sites, including the Adama Industrial Zone, Mojo Poultry Farm, Shera Dibandiba Mojo Family Integrated Farm, Lume Avocado Nursery Site, and the Bishoftu Pea Youth Farm. These visits are intended to explore potential collaboration in food production and sustainable industrial practices.

To honour the visit, Prime Minister Abiy will host Shettima and his delegation at a state dinner in the National Palace. The event is expected to reaffirm Nigeria and Ethiopia’s long-standing diplomatic relationship, which includes cooperation in peacekeeping, military support, and trade.

This trip marks a strategic effort to expand partnerships between both nations, especially in areas of climate action, food security, and industrial development.
