Shettima Says No More Excuses: Government Must Work Together for Business Growth

Vice President Shettima ends blame game in government, urging agencies to unite for a better business environment under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared an end to the blame game among government bodies, urging Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), along with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), to join forces in building a business-friendly Nigeria. Speaking during the closing session of the PEBEC Retreat in Abuja, Shettima stressed the need for unity and accountability in delivering on the country’s development goals.

As chair of PEBEC, Shettima highlighted that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is centered on making it easier for businesses to thrive. He pointed out that the Council’s work so far proves collaboration across government levels is not only possible but essential. He made it clear that silo operations and institutional turf wars must be left behind.

He called for immediate action to simplify government procedures, remove unnecessary bottlenecks, and fully embrace technology. According to him, the focus should be on working smarter, not harder. Shettima urged all MDAs to engage in joint planning, share relevant data, and align on shared performance indicators to drive meaningful results.

He criticized the widespread “not my mandate” attitude and called for a shift toward teamwork and problem-solving. When issues arise, he said they should be addressed through open dialogue, and when systems fall short, they must be improved through innovation. The Vice President closed with a firm reminder that both citizens and investors are watching closely, and that now is the time for government institutions to show they can deliver with transparency, efficiency and a shared sense of responsibility.
