Shot for Nothing: Man Wounded After Wedding in Rural Robbery

A man returning from a wedding in South Africa was shot in the knee by robbers after telling them he had nothing to steal. He was found 12 hours later.

A man was shot by armed robbers while returning home from a wedding in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The attack happened on Sunday night, May 25, 2025, in a remote area as the victim crossed a field. According to his account, two men approached and demanded his belongings. When he told them he had nothing valuable, one of the robbers shot him in the right knee. The attackers then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Injured and unable to walk, the man remained in the field overnight. He was discovered around noon the next day, Monday, May 26, by a passerby who immediately contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for medical help. Due to the area’s remoteness, the caller couldn’t move the victim.

RUSA officers and paramedics arrived at approximately 11:37 AM. They found the man conscious but in pain. After stabilising him at the scene, the team rushed him to the hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

The suspects remain at large, and the case is under investigation.
