The Anambra State Executive Council, led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the construction of a mental health rehabilitation centre at Nibo in the Awka South Local Government Area. This facility aims to help patients discharged from asylums reintegrate into society with full support. Triseconds Resources Ltd. was awarded the project, worth N417.32 million.
According to Dr. Law Mefor, the state’s Commissioner for Information, the rehabilitation centre will serve as a transition point, offering necessary care before individuals return to their families and communities.
The council also reviewed the proposed Anambra Rebirth Programme, resolving that it must promote the revival of the traditional Igbo apprenticeship model, encourage a culture of hard work and honesty, and discourage indecent displays of wealth. The initiative also plans to challenge harmful beliefs around money-making without effort.
Several infrastructure contracts were also approved. These include N72.6 million for the relocation and expansion of the Solution Hub & Park at Aroma Junction in Awka, and N414.9 million for beautification works at the Ekwulobia Flyover.
Further payments were approved to address project fluctuations and extra work:
-
N340.94 million to Hemebs Construction Ltd for additional work on a six-hall High Court building complex
-
N790.25 million to O Ben Developers Ltd for additional construction at the new Commissioners’ Quarters
-
N62.86 million to B & O Ltd for fencing and drainage upgrades at Agulu Lake Safari Park
Dr. Mefor also announced the upcoming launch of the state-funded Solution Fun City, which is scheduled to open on Saturday. The event will feature performances by popular musicians, including Anambra-born artist Flavour and the highlife duo Umu Obiligbo.
