Sule Lamido Claims Neither Buhari nor Jonathan Prioritized Nigeria’s Welfare in 2015

Sule Lamido, former Jigawa Governor, asserts in his autobiography that both Buhari and Jonathan had personal agendas in 2015, leaving Nigeria as the ultimate loser.

Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has criticized both President Goodluck Jonathan and his main rival, Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.), for not putting Nigeria’s best interests first during the 2015 presidential election. Lamido, in his autobiography Being True to Myself, published on May 13th, expressed that regardless of the election outcome, Nigeria would ultimately lose. He made these remarks after observing troubling signs during the campaigns in northern states, where he noted the lack of unity within the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Lamido explained that President Jonathan had breached an earlier agreement to complete former President Yar’Adua’s tenure, seeking re-election in 2015. He also criticized Buhari, claiming that his rise was due to political maneuvering rather than a genuine desire to serve the country. Lamido added that the intense propaganda campaign by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) made it increasingly difficult for the PDP to promote Jonathan. With religion being manipulated for political gain, even PDP members felt pressured to distance themselves from the party. The insurgency in Boko Haram was also weaponized to hurt the ruling party, damaging its reputation further.
