Terry McLaurin, a two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, has asked to be traded from the Washington Commanders as discussions over a contract extension appear to have broken down. Despite reporting to training camp, McLaurin has not taken part in any practice sessions. Instead, he has been placed on the physically unable to perform list, a move that signals he is holding out while still staying present with the team.
McLaurin’s current deal, signed in 2022, runs through the 2025 season. Talks between his representatives and the team reportedly lost momentum, prompting the trade request. McLaurin’s absence from the field has sparked reactions, especially from teammates like quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels, who earned the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award and a Pro Bowl nod last season, expressed hope that McLaurin will return to action. Speaking with CBS Sports, Daniels said he believes number 17 will be back catching passes soon. While he made it clear he has no control over contract matters, Daniels emphasized his desire to continue playing with McLaurin.
McLaurin is coming off the best season of his career, finishing with 13 touchdowns and 1,096 receiving yards. He also earned All-Pro recognition for the first time. Many attribute his standout year to Daniels’ impressive rookie performance.
Drafted in the third round out of Ohio State in 2019, McLaurin has topped 1,000 receiving yards in every season since his rookie year. His consistent production has made him one of the team’s most reliable offensive weapons. However, with only one season remaining on his current deal, his future with the Commanders remains unclear.
