Elder statesman and former police chief, Sir Mike Okiro, has called on politicians to reflect on the needs and expectations of their constituents before making decisions to switch political parties. He emphasized that while it is within their rights to protect their political careers, leaders must not ignore the people who voted them into office.
In a public statement, Okiro criticized the growing trend of defections by governors, senators, and lawmakers, warning that such moves driven by personal ambition could weaken public trust and national unity. He urged those in public office to think beyond personal interest and focus on decisions that genuinely benefit the electorate.
Okiro also praised Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, for his efforts in maintaining peace and order. He further commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and the role he played in resolving the political crisis in Rivers State.
