Tight Security as President Tinubu Addresses Lawmakers on Democracy Day

President Tinubu addresses the National Assembly amid tight security in Abuja to mark Democracy Day and outline his administration’s vision.

A strong security presence surrounded the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Wednesday morning, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepared to speak at a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives. The event, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on June 12, marks Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration.

Personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Sergeant-at-Arms were stationed at key points in and around the complex. Entry was strictly controlled, with only lawmakers and accredited individuals allowed access. Vehicular movement in the area was also limited.

President Tinubu is expected to use the platform to review his administration’s progress and share future plans. The session forms part of the nationwide observance of Democracy Day, a date that commemorates the return of civilian rule in Nigeria.

Several legislators, government officials, and other invited guests had already arrived at the venue under tight security as preparations continued for the president’s address.
