Microsoft co-founder and global philanthropist Bill Gates has been awarded the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The honour was presented during Gates’ official visit to Nigeria, where he is meeting with both federal and state officials to support improvements in the country’s healthcare system.
The recognition comes as Gates engages in discussions aimed at boosting Nigeria’s primary healthcare services. According to a statement from the Gates Foundation, his schedule includes participation in the Goalkeepers Nigeria event, which highlights Africa’s role in global innovation.
The visit follows a major pledge announced in May by the Gates Foundation to invest $200 billion over the next 20 years towards advancing health and development worldwide.
Gates arrived in Nigeria from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, continuing his focus on collaborating with African leaders on sustainable development goals and public health reforms.
