The Federal Government has announced that toll collection on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will begin in December 2025. This update comes as the Ministry of Works prepares to officially open the completed portion of Phase I, Section I of the project.
The 30-kilometre stretch, part of the larger 750-kilometre highway, will be commissioned on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Kilometre 8 in the Jakande Estate area of Lagos State. The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, shared the information through his media adviser, Uchenna Orji.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to virtually commission the highway section, along with other infrastructure projects across southern Nigeria. These include the Ahmadu Bello–Eleko Village road on the Lekki Peninsula, the dualization of East-West Road Section II from Eleme Junction to Ahoada in Rivers State, and the reconstruction and expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Additional projects set for commissioning include the rehabilitated Alesi–Ugep road in Cross River State and the rebuilt Enugu Bridge near the New Artisan Market on the Enugu-Port Harcourt road.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Legacy Projects, a vision he initiated 27 years ago. The highway aims to improve connectivity across nine coastal states, boost economic growth, promote regional integration, and enhance transport infrastructure along Nigeria’s southern corridor.
Minister Umahi described the milestone as the fulfilment of a long-standing dream, now brought to life under President Tinubu’s leadership.
