A 27-year-old South African woman, Micaela Goeieman, has been confirmed dead after she was allegedly shot in the head by her boyfriend, Thabiso Lethabo, at their home in Emndeni Extension 2, Soweto. The tragic event happened on June 4, 2025, during what was described as a heated argument between the couple. Micaela was shot in front of their 6-month-old baby. She also leaves behind a 7-year-old child.
According to a statement released by the advocacy group Women For Change, Lethabo, 34, reportedly called the police himself and confessed to the killing when they arrived. He was immediately arrested at the scene.
Micaela was laid to rest on Saturday, June 14. The incident has drawn outrage online, with many demanding stronger action against gender-based violence. Women For Change expressed sorrow over her death, calling for the crisis of femicide and domestic violence to be treated as a national emergency.
