Tragic Crash on Eko Bridge Claims the Lives of Two Dispatch Riders

A deadly crash involving two Mack trucks causes a 20-ft container to fall, killing two dispatch riders on Eko Bridge in Lagos on May 11.

A devastating incident occurred on Eko Bridge, Lagos, on Sunday, May 11, when two dispatch riders lost their lives after a 20-foot container fell on them. This tragic event followed a collision between two fully loaded Mack trucks. According to Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA), initial investigations revealed that one of the truck drivers was speeding and possibly dozing off before losing control of the vehicle. The truck then crashed into another moving truck, causing a violent impact.

The force of the collision caused the 20-foot container to dislodge, crashing onto the two dispatch riders as they passed by. Both victims, identified by their vehicle registration numbers T-10357 LA and KJA 107 XM, were confirmed dead at the scene.

LASTMA officers, monitoring the area, quickly arrived at the scene. They managed to rescue a severely injured truck driver, who was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the two truck drivers in the crash fled the scene, likely out of fear of consequences. Authorities are currently investigating to locate and apprehend them.

The area was cordoned off, and traffic was redirected through Coastain Roundabout to prevent further incidents. LASTMA’s General Manager, Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and stressed the importance of safe and responsible driving. He urged all drivers, especially those operating large vehicles, to be vigilant and ensure they are in good condition before hitting the road.
