Troops Repel Terrorists in Borno, Kill Dozens in Failed Marte Attack

Nigerian Army confirms killing of dozens of terrorists after foiled attack in Marte. Troops and airstrikes stopped insurgents before they could advance.

Dozens of terrorists were killed after Nigerian troops repelled an early morning attack on May 27, 2025, in New Marte, Borno State. According to a statement issued by Captain Reuben Kuvangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for Operation Hadin Kai, the attempted infiltration by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters was swiftly countered by soldiers on the ground, supported by the operation’s air unit.

The attackers targeted a military position in New Marte but met strong resistance. Reinforcements from the 24 Task Force Brigade Garrison and the 134 Special Forces Battalion arrived quickly and engaged the insurgents in heavy gunfire. The air unit also responded with precision strikes and surveillance, destroying several motorcycles and targeting fleeing fighters.

During the operation, troops recovered an SUV rigged as a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device, left behind by the terrorists. Traces of blood along their escape routes and several lifeless bodies discovered nearby indicated that more casualties were inflicted on the enemy than initially reported.

Sadly, two soldiers lost their lives in the firefight.

In another incident, troops at the Forward Operating Base in Kumshe also fought off a separate attack by terrorists. The Army described the effort as another example of the troops’ resilience and teamwork, adding that the operations reflect a renewed commitment to ending terrorism and restoring peace across the North East.
