Twin brothers Tyler and Taylor Rogers, both Major League Baseball relief pitchers, have been sent to new teams just hours apart, ending their time with the same organization. The pair played together with the San Francisco Giants during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, but that chapter closed when Taylor was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in January. Now, the latest shake-up has sent Taylor to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tyler to the New York Mets.
Taylor joins the Pirates in a trade that saw third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes, son of former MLB player Charlie Hayes, head to the Reds. Meanwhile, Tyler heads to New York as the Mets look to strengthen their bullpen, which also recently added Gregory Soto from the Orioles.
Tyler has been one of the league’s top performers this season. He leads all pitchers with 53 appearances and holds an impressive 1.80 ERA. Last year, he led MLB with 77 appearances and previously topped the National League in appearances in both 2020 and 2021. Over his career, he boasts a 2.79 ERA.
Taylor has also remained consistent, posting a 2.45 ERA this season and a 2.40 ERA the year before. Across 10 seasons, his overall ERA stands at 3.28. Pittsburgh becomes the sixth MLB team he’s played for, while Tyler departs the Giants for the first time in his seven-year career.
The brothers made history as the 10th set of twins to play in Major League Baseball. When Taylor joined the Giants, they became the first twin teammates since Jose and Ozzie Canseco played together for Oakland in 1990. Only five twin duos have ever appeared in the same MLB game.
Though nearly identical, one key difference sets them apart on the field—Tyler throws right-handed, while Taylor pitches from the left.
